Twitter is one of the largest and most popular social networking sites. Created in 2006, Twitter jumped to the forefront of viral marketing within a year of starting. Once you spend some time on this site and decide which marketing strategy you will utilize here, you may find that fifteen minutes a day on this site will help you to build your business faster than ever. Choose a name for your account. I recommend using your real name so that you can brand yourself, rather than your business or a product. If your name is already taken, see what you can come up with that will work. You are only permitted to have fifteen characters for your name there, so you may have to be creative. I could not be Connie Ragen Green because that is 16 letters. that’s why I am Connie Green on Twitter.

Fill out your profile completely, including a bio that is less than the one hundred sixty characters allowed. Include a link to your blog or to a site where other Twitterers can find out more about you. There is not much space here, so use it wisely. You want people to feel like they are able to get to know you as quickly as possible.

Make a goal to send ten tweets each day. Also, limit your time to fifteen minutes each day. If you are able to keep to this schedule, you will build your business, network with people who are interested in your topic, and not feel like social media is taking up all of your time. Trust me on this; limiting your time will make it all worthwhile.

Your tweets should be a combination of helpful information on your topic, links to useful sites that will save others time and enhance their online experience, connecting with others, and retweeting interesting tweets that you receive.

You can use the search feature to locate interesting people on Twitter. I usually do a combination of searches for my keywords and searches for my city and surrounding communities. It’s fun to meet so many new people as you tweet your way to success.

You can also be a leader by starting your own hashtag group. This is the pound sign – # – followed by a word or some letters. Go over to Tweetchat and make sure no one else is using this hashtag for their group or cause. For example, I was part of a 30 day blogging challenge that used the hashtag #powerblog. We all retweeted each other’s blog post links for a period of 30 days, bringing us all more traffic and visibility online. You can do the same thing.

Limit your promotion to no more than once for every twenty tweets. This will build your credibility and bring you the results you are looking for.
