Copywriting and Content For Baby Boomers and Beyond

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

Once you know exactly who your ideal clients are and your target audience, take a look at their age. As our population continues to get older, more and more of us fall into the Baby Boomer category. Yet I regularly see advertisements and information geared more towards the younger crowd.

There is a post by James Chartrand that addresses this situation very well. James talks about writing to an older audience and what you need to consider. Using short, concise sentences, and a larger font size are just two of the reasons to think about what and how you write.

When I write my web sales copy I write directly to the person whom I believe will be reading it. I have given this person a name, age, location, interests, annual income, and more. This person represents all of the men and women in my target audience. I get inside of the mind of this person and answer their questions before they even think to ask them. You can do the same thing. Be sure to address the needs and wants of your ideal client, whether you are writing an article, a blog post, an eBook, or sales copy.

You can download my 21 element Copywriting Checklist and apply this information to every point on the list. Writing web sales copy is different from print copy. You will see that as you read through the checklist. Being able to reach your target audience and offer them copy that is easy to read will save you time and make you money.

Copywriting - Writing Your Own Web Sales Copy To Promote Your Products And Services

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

Once your eBook or other product is finished, how will you promote it to the world? Writing your own sales copy is the best way to promote your eBook and other information products on the internet. Many people are intimidated by the idea of doing their own copywriting, and do not even know where to begin. I felt the same way when I first started, and now I can easily write a sales letter to sell any of my products and services online. Here is how you can get started with writing your own web sales copy.

  • Write as many headlines as you can. Anytime you read something in a magazine or think of something that would make a good headline for what you are promoting, write it down in a notebook that you can access easily. You never know when a good idea will cross your mind.
  • Look at other people’s sales copy. If you are on someone’s list and they offer something for sale, take a look at their sales page to get some ideas. Print some of the better ones out so that you can see the flow of writing from the beginning to the end.
  • Ask people for testimonials (more…)

Writing Your Sales Letter For Your eBook Or Other Information Product

Friday, June 27th, 2008

The very best time to write your sales letter is while you are writing your eBook or other information product. During this time of creating a product to sell on the internet you are more aware of the benefits it will have to the final user. As you are writing or recording your eBook or other information product, write down the features and benefits of  what you have to offer.

You can also use the details of your product to write powerful headlines. You will be emotionally connected to your writing during this creation stage, and that is when the best sales material will come through. You can share stories about how you came to write you eBook and tell your readers more about how this information will help them to achieve similar results and outcomes.

Go back and forth between your eBook and your sales page. Include the reader in the entire process and your sales copy will speak directly to them. Use bullet points to point out features and benefits that may otherwise be overlooked. Years from now you will be glad you took the time to write the sales copy early on in the product creation process.

How To Make Money On The Internet - Get Ready To Start Writing

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

When I first began to build my online business, no one told me I would need to do so much writing. I just wanted to work from home and make more money than I could doing anything else, so I started writing.

I had always wanted to write, but had been told by various people over the years that my writing was not very good. So, for twenty years I did not write. I edited other people’s writing. I was a teacher and also worked in real estate. There were lots of papers and reports that needed to be edited and I was the one to do it.

Almost three years ago I began to pursue my online business, and that is when I found out how much writing was involved. These are the 5 types of writing I now do daily:

  •  Emails – it is important to make your subject line interesting, or people will not open the email to see what you have written

  • Blog posts – I have several blogs and always want to write posts that are informative and interesting to my readers
  • Articles – I have now written almost seven hundred articles during the past fifteen months. The articles must teach the reader something they want to know and make a point about the topic you are writing on.
  • eBooks and special reports – these are short books on a particular topic. I am now writing my fourth eBook, which will be sold online and bring passive income for years to come.
  • Sales pages – this is copywriting for the internet and is the way to sell what you have created, such as eBooks, special reports, audio files, and other products.

I now look forward to writing every day. If you enjoy writing, you will love working on the internet. Keep this in mind when you begin to work online. Writing will be the key to your success.

Write An Ebook That Sells by Using Powerful Titles

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

Writing a compelling title will help you to sell more ebooks. But the title of your ebook is not the only title you need to think about. Each chapter in your ebook also needs a powerful, keyword rich title. Think about your titles as the headlines and sub-headlines that you will use in your sales copy. Let me explain further.

While you were writing your ebook you were researching to find the best keywords to describe your topic.  You used these keywords in the articles you wrote and continue to write, and finally chose a keyword rich title as the name of your ebook. Now go back and look at each chapter. Do the chapter titles take full advantage of your keywords? Each chapter needs to grab the attention of your readers and draw them into your information, making them want to know more.

When you are ready to write a sales page for your ebook, look back at the list of titles you have already written. One of these can be turned into a headline for your sales letter. Others can be used as your sub-headlines. You want the reader to be drawn in as they read your sales letter so that they will feel they absolutely must have your ebook.

Make a list of titles and headlines for your ebook. When you see something from someone else that grabs your attention, write it down and see how you can apply it to your ebook. The fact is that a great title is the best way to sell more ebooks.

Selling An Ebook - It’s All About Your Web Copy

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

Yesterday I was contacted by a man who lives in Pennsylvania. He was referred to me by someone who had taken one of my writing courses last year. This man has written an ebook and was hoping to sell it online. It has been almost a year now and he isn’t making any sales. I had him send me a copy of the ebook so I could get an idea of his niche, target audience and writing style.

The ebook is very well written. It is 96 pages long and provides lots of good information on his topic. I then asked him where one could go to purchase this ebook online. He gave me a link to  (more…)
