Syndicate Your Blog Content Using Web 2.0 Applications

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

Even though it isn’t time for my Tuesday technology tip, I wanted to share this information with you. When you make a post to your blog these days, it is likely to appear in many more places than just on your blog. This is all thanks to the magic of syndication, which basically means that your content can be delivered to different sites in various places, giving you massive exposure all over the internet. Here are some ways for you to get started so that you can use the power of syndication to gain more visibility on the internet.

  • Accept the fact that Web 2.0 is a reality and here to stay. I like to define this phenomenon as the ability for people to finally be part of the conversation online, and to choose what information they want to receive, in contrast to interruption marketing, where we were all at the mercy of those who wanted to contact us without our permission.
  • Start an account on Twitter right away. Look for people who have similar interests to yours to follow in the beginning, and then see what happens.
  • Open up an account on Facebook. Here you will be able to (more…)

Brett Favre Gets Traded To Jets - We Can All Blog Again

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

If you’ve been holding your breath while the NFL decided Brett Favre’s fate, it’s time to get back to work. Of course, this is an example of using a current event to get your reader’s attention. You might also have noticed that I am starting to use more graphics, and that is because iClipArt is having a great offer on their clip art service. Check it out if you have been looking for graphics to spice up your blog posts.

Tie your blog posts into what is going on in the world around you, and you will find that your readers are more interested in your blog posts overall. If you can connect your current events post to your niche topic - even better. Football season is right around the corner, so I challenge you to tie it in to your topic and let us know so we can take a look. I will publish links to all blogs using a football connection between now and Labor Day.

Finding Your Ideal Clients And Letting The Others Go

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

This morning I went to the networking meeting held weekly in my city. I like to visit them about every 6 months or so to see what they are doing. It is not a group that would be a good fit for my online business, but I do offer them tips on how to promote their offline businesses. I am always thrilled when one of them has written an article or started a blog, but they are pretty set in their ways so this does not happen very often.

Today I was pleasantly surprised when one of the members got up to speak about her landscape design company. She now understands that not everyone with a backyard is her ideal client. Once she was able to focus on which people she wanted to work with, she was able to let everyone else go.

Think about the eBook you (more…)

Article Writing And Marketing, Blogging, And Sending Press Releases To Make The Phone Ring

Monday, August 4th, 2008

One part of my online business involves marketing for three small businesses. I write articles, blog, and send press releases for a handyman, an insurance agent, and a plumbing company. You can do the same thing as you are building your online business.

I began by setting up a blog for the handyman two years ago. I would write about the work he did and include pictures with many of the posts. I always included keywords in the post titles, which included the name of his city and the words handyman, patio cover, kitchen faucet repair, ceiling fans installed, or anything else that we was doing. Within a few months his phone was ringing and he had discontinued all other advertising. I had also started writing one or two articles each month for him, making sure to include these same keywords in the article titles.

By this time the insurance agent had found out what I was doing and asked me to do the same for him. We negotiated a monthly fee and I began writing. The most recent (more…)

Position Yourself As An Expert By Blogging About Your Passion

Friday, August 1st, 2008

Most of you know that I have more than a dozen blogs. No, I don’t post to each one every day. Yes, they are all on different topics in various niches. Three of them are for small businesses that I market for.

The biggest question I get is regarding where I come up with fresh ideas and new content for each blog. The simple answer is that I always have my eyes and ears open. I read other blogs and subscribe to many email newsletters. I listen to other people’s teleseminars. I read articles online that are related to my topics. The end result is that I will never run out of things to write. You can do the same thing and position yourself as an expert in the process. Here are some suggestions for better blogging:

  • Spend time researching your topic, both online and off.
  • Read everything you can on your topic.
  • Read other blogs and leave comments when you have something to add to the conversation.
  • Google your topic and visit the sites that come up. Don’t just visit the ones on page 1 and 2 of Google; go to page 10 and see what gems you can find.
  • Love your topic and be passionate about it. It will show in your writing.
  • Be thankful that you have the opportunity to express yourself freely on your blog. Just 5 years ago, blogs were in their infancy. Now they are among the most powerful and influential sources of information the world has ever known.

Ping Your Blog Even If Pingoat And Pingomatic Are Down

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

Pinging your blog after each post is important to your overall SEO (search engine optimization) strategy. Each time you ping your blog post, many blog directories are notified that you have some new, fresh content. They, in turn, send out their spiders to see what you have written and index your post.

Both Pingoat and Pingomatic have been down for a couple of weeks now. But they are not the only sites that offer this type of pinging service. Technorati offers the best service, mainly because they are the largest blog directory in the world. If you haven’t already, go over to Technorati and claim your blog. You will see your traffic to your blog increase dramatically when you do so, because more people from around the world will now be able to find you online through your keywords.

I have also started using Ping.in and KPing.com. These are two sites that offer a similar service to that offered by Pingoat and Pingomatic.

So keep on posting and pinging, and do no worry about which sites provide this service to you.

How To Use Trackbacks - Tuesday Technology Tip

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Today’s Tuesday technology tip will cover trackbacks. A trackback is used to let another blogger know that you have written something about one of their posts. It is the only way the other blogger would find out that you had referred to him or his post, unless you used his name or something that he had a Google Alert set for.

If I am writing a post and want to discuss someone or something from another blog, I send a trackback ping when I publish my post. For a WordPress blog, the trackback url is simply the permalink with /trackback after it. On Typepad, you can click on the word ‘trackback’ at the end of the post and you will be given the trackback url, which is a long string of numbers.

Using trakbacks is a great way to connect with other bloggers and let them know you think their post will be helpful and interesting to your readers.

Blogging Your eBook - How To use Your Blog To Write Your eBook

Monday, July 14th, 2008

I can’t overstress the importance of blogging when you are writing and marketing your eBook. Your blog will be the best way to get your name and information known on the internet, giving you the opportunity to gain visibility, credibility, and profitability online. It will also give you the content you need to finish writing your eBook.

I have written about this in previous blog posts, but many people still need to learn about using their blog for search engine optimization (SEO). Take a look at any of my post titles and you will see that I am using my keywords to help people find my blog. When someone searches for your topic on Google or any of the search engines, you want your blog to come up as high as possible in the rankings.

By using your eBook chapter headings as your categories, you will make it even easier to get your eBook written by repurposing your blog posts. Once you have written ten or more posts on one category, you will have most of that chapter completed.

Get back in the blogging habit, post something of interest every day, and you will not only get your eBook written but also have someone to sell it to.

WordPress or Typepad - Which Blogging Platform Is Best?

Friday, July 11th, 2008

I am often asked to give my opinion on which blogging platform is the best. The truth is, I use both WordPress and Typepad, and believe they both have some good and bad points.

Typepad is user friendly and is hosted by Six Apart. In the three years I have been with them, their service has always been available, unlike some other companies with servers that go down regularly. Typepad’s customer service is also outstanding. You can start for as little as $4.95 per month, but I have the Pro plan, which gives me unlimited blogs and all of the features. This runs $14.95 per month, or $149 per year.

Hosted WordPress, available for no charge at WordPress.org, offers thousands of themes to choose from. However, you must upload the them you choose to your hosting company, and then do all of the technical part and plug-ins yourself, or hire someone to do it.

Both Typepad and WordPress blogs do well with the search engines, so I have done well with both.

What is your opinion on this? It reminds me of the time when we used to argue over which car manufacturer was best - Chevy or Ford. Back then I had a distinct opinion, but I was much younger in those days

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

You will need to market yourself and your eBook if you want to make profit from it. Blogging is the best way to get this accomplished so that people can find your information easily on the internet. Here are 7 ways to get back in the blogging habit, and enjoy every minute of it.

  • See your blog as the powerful marketing tool that it is. Every time you think of a new idea for your business, or have a conversation with one of your clients, make some notes and turn it into a blog post. Blogging about the content of your eBook will position you as an expert in your field.

How Can Blogging Help Me Write My eBook?

Saturday, May 24th, 2008

Blogging is an excellent way to organize your eBook so that you can complete it in the shortest amount of time possible. As you are writing your eBook, break it up into chapters that are logical and sequential for your niche topic. Each chapter needs a title that contains your keywords, so the reader will know exactly what to expect from that particular chapter.

Next, use the keywords from your chapter titles as the categories on your blog. Every time you post to your blog, add the post to the category that coincides with your chapter title and keywords. Readers will be able to locate the information that is relevant to what they need, and more people will find you through your blog.

When you are writing your eBook, you can pull up all of the posts you made relating to a specific chapter by clicking on the category heading. This make the writing process go faster and smoother, and your eBook will be written in record time.

Are you tired of blogging? Have you abandoned your blog after just a few months? If so, you are not alone. Build Your Business By Blogging - Get Your Message Out To The World

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

You can build your online business through your blog. As I talked about in a previous post on blogging, this is one of the most powerful online strategies you can have.

Spend a few minutes every day writing down some ideas you want to share with your target audience. Even if you have less than one hundred people on your list right now, don’t let that keep you from providing useful information in each of your blog posts. I always imagine that I am writing directly to one person, but have thousands of readers. This keeps me focused, yet entrepreneurial at the same time.

Blogging can also get your creative juices flowing. I usually post to my blog each morning, and then expand that post into an article. I then write at least one page for any special report, action guide, or eBook I am also working on at the time. You will get much faster after you have been blogging for just a short time, perhaps a month or so.

I have developed all of my blogging skill and been part of a mentor program that you can also join. Find out more about the blogging mentor program and forum that has helped me to build my business during the past two years.

Blogging - Part Of A Powerful Online Writing Strategy

Friday, May 16th, 2008

If you are writing an eBook, blogging regularly should be part of your overall marketing strategy for doing business on the internet. Other online writing, such as article marketing and press releases, is also important, but blogging will help you to reach more people and achieve your goals in a shorter period of time. Here are some reasons why it is so important to maintain a blog if you are doing any kind of business online.

  • The search engines love blogs. Every time you write a post you have added a page of fresh content to your site. This will help you to rank above traditional websites on your topic that do not change their content regularly.
  • Blogs are easier than ever to set up and maintain. You can have a blog ready to show to the world in less than an hour, and do it all yourself. This can be done easily, without having to pay for a webmaster to set it up.
  • You can do anything from a blog that you can do from a traditional website. You can add pages, (more…)

Double Your Profit On Your eBook

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

You can more than double your profits on the eBook you write if you are willing to explain the content of your eBook to others. This is a way to repurpose your content and will enable you to build an entire online business based on the information you wrote about. There are several ways to do this.

First, write articles based on your eBook. These articles can be used to promote your eBook, as well as related products and services. You can also use article marketing to build a list of people (your traget audience) who will be interested in learning more about your topic.

Next, start a blog. This blog should be specific to your exact topic. For example, if your niche is real estate, narrow that down to residential or commercial, buyer’s or seller’s, and so on. This will ensure that you only attract people who are specifically searching for more information on what you know most about.

Finally, be willing to give teleseminars on your topic. You can use your articles or a chapter from your eBook as the basis of the outline for a teleseminar. The service I use is called Instant Teleseminar. There is a cost for this service, but it is the best one available. When you go through my link I will give you a consultation on how to set it up. I have built a five figure a month online business using this method.

What questions would you like me to address on this topic during one of my upcoming teleseminars?

Marketing Yourself And Your Online Business With Blogs

Monday, May 12th, 2008

Marketing yourself and your online business is a full time job. You might as well make it fun, and writing articles and blogging allows you to do that. Most of you know that I have now written more than 630 articles during the past 14 months, but you may not know that I have also been blogging since 2005.

I started out with Blogger, Google’s free service, but quickly realized that it was not good for professional business purposes. Free is not always better, and that is particularly true when it comes to blogging platforms.

I looked next at WordPress, but saw that the free version was no better than Blogger and the hosted version was just too technologically advanced for what I wanted to do. (This blog is done on WordPress, but it was installed by people who do it professionally. It can run into several hundred dollars or more to have a custom WordPress theme with plug-ins installed on your server.)

In the fall of 2005 I found the Blog Squad, Patsi Krakoff and Densie Wakeman. They introduced me to the Typepad blogging platform. Typepad can be set up in less than an hour and the cost is as low as $4.95 US per month, although I recommend the Plus package, which runs $8.95 US per month. It is much less if you pay by the year.

You can learn everything about maintaining your Typepad blog by reading Patsi and Denise’s book, Build A Better Blog. I keep it next to my computer and refer to it regularly when I want to make a change or add another feature to one of my blogs. I also belong to the Blog Squad’s Mentor Program. The price is right and the information is priceless. I must say that the Blog Squad have been instrumental to my success online.
